Candling Eggs with the Incubright Ultra bright Egg Candler

Hatching eggs is such a magical experience. In a very short 21 days they grow from egg to adorable baby chick. With so much happening in such a short stretch of time its natural to be want to see whats happening on the inside of the eggs and to ensure that they are growing an developing properly. We are able to do this with a process called 'candeling'. Candling is a method used to see through the shell of an egg using a bright light to check for development.

Eggs are usually candled starting at about 7 days of incubation. Candling can be preformed earlier than this but its best to wait until at least day 7 to determine if eggs are viable or not.

There are several ways to produce the light needed to accomplish candling. I've seen online how many folks have created DIY candlers using common household items. There are also some high end candlers available for purchase online and in local farm/feed stores. Prior to receiving the Incubright Egg Candler from IncubatorWarehouse.com I was using a flashlight app on my cell-phone (Sad.. I know..)

Cell phone candling (don't laugh!)

I set a small clutch of 5 Lavender Ameraucana eggs on February 15th and candled them with the Incubright egg candler on day 7

Incubright Egg Candler

As you can see the Incubright Egg Candler illuminates the whole egg and allows a much greater view at the development inside.

Here's what I like about the Incubright Egg Candler:
+Brightness – The light is very bright
+Rubber casing/shell – The “fat end” of the eggs seem to nest nicely in the lip of the light (which is super helpful when you have the candler & egg in one hand and a camera in the other trying to get that perfect photo – no eggs were harmed in the creation of this post)
+Stays cool to the touch
+Batteries included – Always a plus
+Small, Lightweight, Can be kept next to the incubator (No more, “where is my phone so I can candle these eggs” nonsense.)

I can't speak for the durability of this product long term or the battery life because I've only used it for a short time. But as far as functionality and brightness its better than any other candling methods I've used in the past.

Today is day 18 for my Lavender Ameraucana eggs. The incubator is on lockdown and the babies should be hatching in the next couple of days. I can't wait to meet them!

PS:  A little birdie told me that IncubatorWarehouse.com has sponsored an INCUBATOR GIVEAWAY that is coming soon! So keep an eye out for that in the next few days too!!
